    Lisa Van Der Aarde

    Photo
Lisa Van Der Aarde was born in the United States, and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. She grew up in the "Heart of the Beast" - Upper Symonds St - so always more interested in alternative Culture.

At Auckland University, Lisa joined Campus Radio (which would later become 95bFM) as a DJ, Programme Director, and host of NZ Music Show 'Freak the Sheep' for many years. She released two Freak The Sheep compilations of NZ bands with Flying Nun Records, and wrote music reviews and interviews with NZ bands in numerous publications.

Lisa was the band manager for Hallelujah Picassos (Wildside records), and SPUD (Flying Nun) and so by default was also a tour manager. She was also one of the judges for the NZ Music Awards for two years (their token Student Radio representative, she suggests). Lisa has always been interested in film, and made a documentary about Auckland band Headless Chickens called 'Poultry in Motion', which made it into two Auckland film festivals. As she recalls, "Barry Barclay saw it and said he liked it - I was thrilled!" She also worked with NZ Filmmaker Merata Mita on her film 'Mauri' doing research for the film.

Lisa moved to San Francisco in 1994 and currently works at the SF Museum of Modern Art, continuing her love of music, film and the Arts in "this chaotic place".
