    Mark-roberts

Mark Roberts grew up in Germany, but spent most of his adult years in America and New Zealand. He currently lives and works in New York where he's finishing up his new Enright House record "In Perfect Blooms of Color". He's currently super enthusiastic about classical music, the history of ideas, swimming, naturalistic morality, aesthetics, evolutionary psychology, idealist philosophy, tennis, and the notion of bringing old shoes to a shoe-repair person rather than throwing them out.

    Video

A few months ago my partner and I lived through a cultural detox month. No TV, no trashy mags, no pop music. For me it was back to basics, and so I spent one month listening pretty much exclusively to Beethoven Sonatas. Out of the countless interpretations I listened to Emil Gilels' balance of virtuosity and restraint impressed me the most. Here he is performing Beethoven's "Waldstein" Sonata.

Misfit Mod is Sarah Kelleher. Sarah is my friend. She is also destined to become one of the most important female artists of the next decade.

I've been totally enamored with Simon Page's design work, and this was the image that first drew my attention. I've since written to him about designing the cover for my upcoming album, but unfortunately, I don't quite have the money to pay what his work is worth. However, I'm not giving up hope: there will always be more albums, more opportunities, and - perhaps one day - more money.

    Arts and Letters Daily

Curated by my former professor/mentor Denis Dutton, Arts & Letters Daily is easily my favorite source for intellectual stimulus on or off the web. As Denis himself says, Arts & Letters Daily is meant for the "kind of people who subscribe to the New York Review of Books, who read Salon and Slate and The New Republic — people interested in ideas."

Mary's my partner. Tucked in between some of her more personal tweets you will also find a brilliant assortment of well-curated links to pop-cultures finest offerings. Between her and Arts & Letters Daily you should have most bases covered.
