In 1967, the Trinidad Tripoli Steel Band played at Expo67 in Montreal, and were discovered there by Liberace. He took them on tour with him, and also on several tv appearances. Here’s the Tripoli Steel Band on the Mike Douglas Show, playing while Liberace, The Brady Bunch and Douglas do the limbo. Track down the Tripoli Steel band covering I Want You Back by the Jackson 5 (under their previous name Esso Trinidad Steel Band).

Cave Circles is the name of an EP from Wellington musician Riki Gooch. He’s a member of Trinity Roots, and has made a name for his own music under the alias Eru Dangerspiel. He’s a drummer and producer, and this Ep is mad, jazzy, beaty, and beautiful. Download and name your price. He’s done a follow up Ep too, Cave Circles 2.

This is Merlin Mann, delivering the final talk at Webstock 2011, a conference in Wellington NZ - I was the official Webstock DJ, cos every good conference has one. Mann's slides were defiantly lowtech - scribbled on index cards and photographed in the carpark outside the venue. His talk was called Scared Shitless and it was utterly brilliant. He even got some of the other conference speakers to write down what scared them and then included them in his talk. One of his fellow speakers wrote “I was afraid I’d never stop using drugs”. Wow.
You can read the notes on Mann’s talk here (Crowdsourced via Google Docs by the conference audience, a great idea)

Dust And Grooves is a beautifully illustrated site that talks to people who love records. They are fans of music, from the cover art to the labels to the music. Reading this site reminds you why you collect music. It connects you to what is special about records. It’s a joy to read. Go lose yourself in it for a while.
